Redcrown lies behind them. The Happy Eater, somewhere ahead. And the crew of the Godsinger is in a race to beat their rivals. The Mesoreia (Mezo-ryah) has a reputation for being a smooth stretch of verdancy, but the crew learns that reputation is not entirely true.

Zin pulls a half-dead stranger from the waves, one who might know more about their quarry. Bebo spots something shiny, but there's no time to celebrate: something burns on the horizon, and the ship is moving straight for it! Caught between pursuit and disaster, it's Kezza who sees the angle nobody else could. Fortune favors fools. Good thing the Godsinger has three to spare.
